The Ultimate Bridesmaids & Maid of Honour Checklist

Being a bridesmaid is an honour, however it also comes with great responsibility. From pre-wedding preparations to standing by the bride on the big day, you will play a crucial role in making sure things run smoothly. Whether it's your first time or you've done it before, we hope this checklist will help you navigate your role with ease. Of course don't forget to enjoy yourself and have fun during the process too!

Pre-Wedding Responsibilities:

  1. Know the plan: Save the wedding date, time and venue(s). Familiarise with the wedding vendors and important contacts involved (wedding planner, other bridesmaids, etc.) for wedding planning. 

  2. Dress shopping: Attend wedding dress shopping trips with your bride-to-be. Understand the bride's preferences and help her pick her dream dress. Ensure that any rentals or dress alterations are completed on time. 

  3. Assist with wedding planning: Offer help with various wedding planning tasks, such as sending out invitations, assembling wedding favours, or helping with DIY projects. 

  4. Attend wedding rehearsals: Practice makes perfect! Attend all rehearsals and practice any other wedding day responsibilities. This  ensures smooth operation on the day of. 

  5. Bridal attire planning: Assist the Maid of Honour with bridal attire arrangements and sourcing (where necessary). 

  6. Bachelorette Party/Bridal Shower planning: Participate in the planning and attending of any bridal events. Coordinate with the Maid of Honour and the bridesmaids on themes, activities and food. Make sure the bride has fun! Also arrange for any transportation or accommodations if needed.

For the Maid of Honour: You will be acting as the point of contact and oversee all the on-going planning. You can create a bridesmaid group chat and kickstart planning. Also start arranging the bridal attire and source for them (if necessary). Other than ensuring that all of the above runs smoothly, you can also start preparing your speech or toast (if any) for the wedding day.

Wedding Day Responsibilities:

  1. Pack a day-of emergency kit: Have an emergency kit on hand (bobby pins, safety pins, makeup for touch-ups, tissues, etc). This will help you stay prepared for any last-minute hiccups that might pop up along the way. 

  2. Arrive on time: Arrive early for hair and makeup, or earlier if the bride needs extra help with getting ready. 

  3. Assist the Bride: Help arrange the bride's dress and veil throughout the day, especially for the ceremony and photos. 

  4. Participate in the Ceremony: Fulfil your ceremony duties as rehearsed (walking down the aisle etc.) and hold the bride's bouquet during the vows (if necessary). Offer any post-ceremony assistance if needed.

  5. Help with the Reception: As a bridesmaid, you’ll be there to assist the bride, whether it’s helping with outfit changes, keeping the energy up, or coordinating group photos. You can also keep an eye on the reception timeline to ensure that key events like cake cutting and speeches happen on schedule.

  6. Take many pictures!: Take many pictures, videos and behind-the-scenes for both the bride and you to keep for memories.

  7. Don't forget to celebrate: Your role is more than just following a checklist. Enjoy every moment. Remember to have fun, create joyful memories, and celebrate! 

For the Maid of Honour: Other than participating in all of the above, you may also need to keep the bride's vows on the day of. Make sure that all bridesmaids have their bouquets and host/ MC the reception if needed.

Post-Wedding Responsibilities

  1. Offer post-wedding assistance: Help to return any rented items (dresses, tuxedos etc.) and assist with transportation for the couple.
  2. Share your photos and videos: Share all the photos, videos and behind-the-scenes you took throughout the day for everyone to keep as memories.
