May 2022
What was your first impression of each other?
He was very tall, 6’2”. She was very small, 5’2”.

How did you decide on your wedding date and venue? And what was your wedding theme and what was your inspiration behind it?
The date was determined by our spring break; we both work in schools. We had to return to work on Monday, but we were able to enjoy a two week honeymoon to Western National Parks once school was out. We wanted a garden wedding, under a willow tree - informal yet refined. The bridesmaids picked their dresses, pale blue florals, and carried baskets of flowers. We choose to have our favorite family cookies rather than cake. And the tables were set with various chinoiserie vases and mismatched blue and white plates.

What were some of your biggest challenges you faced during your wedding planning?
The challenge is always the weather! Early April can be very cool and wet in Virginia. There was a barn and a tent on the farm and arrangements had been made for shawls and jackets. Luckily, spring came early and the trees and plantings were definitely popping. However, that meant heavy pollen! The day was sunny, warm and lovely into the evening, but we could not breathe!

How did your friends or family react when they first saw you in your wedding gown?
A chorus of Ooohs and Ahhhs. Only my mother and godmother had seen the dress. They are both costume designers, and adored my choice. It was a surprise for everyone else. When anyone had asked, I described something totally different. I think my bridesmaids were puzzled by the simple front, but squealed when they saw the back. Many guests commented on how refreshingly unique the look was.

Was there a special touch or a special way of styling your Bone & Grey gown?
I had asked for the Julia to be made in Crepe, which was a dream to wear. My mother bustled the train on the outside, which made a nice drape. I wore a rhinestone hair clip, a pearl drop necklace down my back and my mom’s wedding earrings. Simple flats with blue embellishments. No boning, no lace, no beading, no petticoat, I was soooooo comfortable.

If you had multiple outfits, please share your decision for the multiple outfits and the vibe you were going for!
I did have another outfit, but my gown was so comfortable I didn’t feel the need to change. I was enjoying my guests too much.
